Halloween: The Game Challenges Not Working?

Update to Patch 1.0.2, restart the game, and compare the exact objective with what happened. Then distinguish a challenge that never triggered from one that triggered but disappeared from the saved menu. They need different troubleshooting.

Officially Fixed in 1.0.2

The September 11 patch names these Story issues:

  • Prologue Challenge 6 tracking.
  • Chapter 2 Challenge 6 executions falsely counting as alerts.
  • Chapter 4 Challenge 2 making Lynda leave the bedroom after Bob's death.
  • Chapter 5 Challenge 1 incorrectly requiring complete flashlight depletion.

It also corrects escort/survival tracking and several named Passive/Progressive objectives. Prestige Challenges were reenabled, and the update fixes an active Prestige Challenge blocking matchmaking. A later note says missing Weapon Prestige criteria were corrected and asks players to restart.

These are confirmed historical bugs with announced fixes. They do not prove your current attempt failed for the same reason.

Check Requirements Before Repeating

Read the full challenge entry, not just a guide title. Confirm whether it belongs to Story, a role-wide Passive category, or a sequential Progressive track tied to a specific character, skin, or weapon.

For a kill condition, check:

  1. Was this the required target or a different resident?
  2. Was the required Stalk condition reached before the action?
  3. Did the prompt identify the intended execution?
  4. Did the victim die at the required location or during the required animation?
  5. Did a witness, body discovery, or earlier action violate stealth?
  6. Was the correct Progressive step active?

For Chapter 2, a Surprise XP message is useful feedback but not a full-chapter success certificate. For Chapter 4, a high Stalk level does not automatically turn every grab into a Bloodthirsty execution. Use the chapter guides for the specific cases.

Completion Notifications Versus Saved Progress

Chapter 3 players describe receiving an achievement while losing chapter progress at the ending. The report predates 1.0.2, but it illustrates why the two records must be checked separately.

After an attempt, let the ending finish, inspect the chapter menu, and reopen it after restarting if the result is inconsistent. Record whether stars, rewards, and chapter access remain. Restarting is a diagnostic step—not a guarantee that lost completion will be restored.

Do not delete local saves, unlink accounts, or reset all progression as an initial fix. Those actions can create a larger recovery problem.

What Remains Unresolved

September 11–12 player reports still describe missing credit, alongside reports of successful completion. These establish ongoing complaints, not a confirmed universal bug or one reliable workaround.

The developer acknowledges unclear challenge wording. The official notes also list achievement fixes for Purist, Close Quarters, No Friend Left Behind, Natural Observer, and Stalker; they do not promise automatic retroactive credit for every previously failed attempt.

Avoid unsupported “fixes” involving graphics presets, mandatory Hard difficulty, or a specific checkpoint exploit unless you can tie them to your exact current-version issue.

Send a Reproducible Report

Use the Support link on the official game website. Include platform, game version, chapter/challenge number, difficulty, exact objective text, action/target, checkpoint restarts, and the final saved result. A short clip spanning the action and notification is more useful than a long description of unrelated matches.

If the failure also blocks matchmaking, include the active Prestige objective and error text. If the game crashes rather than rejecting completion, use the crash guide.
