How Escapes Work

That official description establishes a search-and-adapt loop. It does not publish a complete recipe for every exit or promise that a familiar route is active in the current match.

Find an Active Route

Check points of interest as you move between residents, telephones and loot. Treat any discovered escape as a candidate that still needs the correct items. If a route cannot currently be interacted with, keep searching rather than assuming the match is broken.

The map directory can help with major landmarks, but it deliberately does not claim fixed route or item positions.

Search for the Required Items

Lootable containers can hold weapons, distractions and key items. The exact item tied to an exit depends on what the match generated, so collect information and share useful discoveries with teammates.

Bring Residents to Safety

The Civilian objective is not limited to the four player characters. Find residents, convince them that Michael is a threat and use the available commands to hide or follow. When an escape is ready, guide residents toward it when the route and situation allow.

Escaping alone may keep your character alive, but it does not automatically mean the town's rescue objective went well. The number and importance of residents saved remain part of the wider match outcome.

Expect Michael to Hear the Escape

Activating an escape creates major noise and alerts Michael to the exact location, according to IllFonic. Prepare before starting the sequence: know where nearby residents and teammates are, and avoid triggering a route that nobody is ready to use.
